An incubator and champion of Black and Brown theatre, based in Rochdale.

Rafia Hussain Productions is committed to creating a more inclusive and equitable theatre landscape, where the voices and stories of all communities are celebrated and amplified.

We do this by commissioning and producing Black and Brown plays and musicals.

We also develop early career artists in Rochdale through development programmes and paid placements.

Rafia’s producing practice is a blend of activism, productions and artist development.

Rafia is currently a participant of Stage One’s Bridge The Gap programme for 2024-25.

In 2024 she co-authored the ‘Producing Producers’ report - the culmination of a two year nationally significant research project to shape arts policy and develop the infrastructure for the training and development of racialised producers.

In 2023 she was selected to be an IETM Global Connector from a global open call of 225. She is also the Strategic Consultant at In Good Company (IGC), the artist development organisation for Midlands performance makers and producer of the annual summer festival of contemporary work, Departure Lounge.

Talent is everywhere, opportunity is not. Rochdale is Rafia’s home town, the company’s base and has historically been under-invested in. We want to help change that by developing pathways into the sector and employment for people who live in Rochdale.
